acrylics on unprimed canvas.200 x 150 cm The artworks of the FUGUE series (dating from 2022 - 2023) are made of conflicting brushstrokes. Like the musical scheme of the contrapunctual Fugue these conflicting and contradicting stokes engage in a form of dialogue or dispute. And in doing so the different painterly markings find themselves in a web of relationships characterized by strong and intricate interdependencies. I remember lsitening to some of Johan Sebastian Bachs Goldberg Variations that afternoon in the atelier.. The drawings are generated by spontaneous painterly actions. In a way they still spatially contain or embody the time it took to bring them into being. The earlier parts of the strokes are spatially further back. acrylic on untrThis is different than working in my 3D-software where I can manipulate rotate or twist any sculpture to my liking for as long as I care to do so. Here, with these action paintings there is no changing or fidgeting around. They are how they are, frozen in time. But the dynamic gesture or painterly action or drive that brought these pieces to life can still be felt.

The Berlin artist Peter Sandhaus never restricted himself to the classic arts alone but extended his artistic work to divers fields like computer generated art, sculptural architecture, production design and public space development. Both his large scale public art projects (www.sandhaus.net) and his paintings are dealing with the concept of a curved space-time continuum. Many of the two-dimensional works can be understood as sketches to generate notions of dynamic sculptures under tension. These four-dimensional configurations often appear to be still in motion and might even start to move again - when you are not looking..
