ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Having practiced Chinese ink painting for over 20 years, Fan use ink painting techniques to discuss Chinese ancient philosophies and environment issues. By blending acrylic and mineral pigment, Fan created a unique shade of blue named ‘X Ocean Blue’. Fan combines ink and vibrant lines to create an optical illusion on a flat canvas. By manipulating colors, the surface will appear to have depth. Observers may perceive more than just a flat surface; they may feel as though there is space between the color lines and the ink paintings, giving an impression of the landscape sinking into the water. While optical illusions are typically created using shapes and blocks of colors, in her paintings, she demonstrates a brand new approach to the abstract painting history.
