About The Artwork

It's a painting of ink on a Korean paper. The Rainy 139km veiw series is like my travel journal. It used to rain often on the roads to my hometown in Gangwon-do during my nine-year stay in the country. When it rained, I used to look outside the bus window and observe the scenery, which I thought was my daily routine, and I felt strange. I felt like I was a traveler traveling from city to country when nature became unfamiliar to me. It was a moment when my hometown literally became my 'living' home. Out of the window of countless buses that became my means of transportation became my other canvas. The rain that stopped and flowed on the screen became a medium for me to remember my hometown and not to forget it. When it rains, I have deep thoughts about my hometown. The distance from my hometown of Inje to Seoul is 139km.
