My Artwork A Window to My Life Living the first part of my life under a dictatorial communist régime that controlled art in the same manner as all other country’s fields, my creativity had been limited. After I graduated the art college in Bucharest, Romania, I displayed my artwork, for the most part, in group exhibitions, having only two solo shows, which were also organized and controlled by a communist institution. In the same period of time I also made a very large mural for an official building. During the time I moved and lived in Paris, my main goal was to enjoy liberty and also to study the masters’ techniques, trying to employ them in my artwork. I also visited museums and art galleries in Belgium and Holland and tried to stay in contact with artists, aiming to build up a new style; one free of the communist influence. Once I had moved to Canada, I struggled for the first years to integrate well into the new culture. Unfortunately, as an artist, having the time to work on my own art suffered once more. Instead, my activity was restricted to private art lessons and working on commission, participating only in a few in-group art shows. Concomitantly, I graduated from the University of Waterloo, receiving a degree in Art, and later the University of Windsor, receiving a degree in Education. However, in Canada I exhibited my artwork in places such as Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, and Leamington Art Gallery, Gallery Collection in Windsor and D.A.M in Detroit (in-group and solo exhibitions). In the same time, I offered art classes in my private studio to students of all ages. The greatest gratification felt was the receiving on July, 1989, the former U.S.A. President, George Bush’s letter, which expresses his appreciation for my “symbolic painting”. I worked as a high school art teacher for about 15 years, and at the same time, as an artist-in-residence for more than ten years, under different art programs, sponsored by the Ontario Art Council, Multicultural Canada, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Presently, I concentrate my entire time and effort working in my studio, forcing my mind to transfer, either onto canvas or to 3-D plaster columns, the snapshots of the majestic interiors of a future Museum of Mankind. I like human beings and marvel at their achievements ─ a sentiment portrayed all over my artwork. According to what the admirers of my artwork have said, this love for humanity makes my art “unique”.
