About The Artwork

Recently I was able to buy a book about cantilever chairs, a collectors item. It is written by Otokar Macel, who was professor at the Delft University for years. More than 2100 cantilever chairs are depicted in this book. The first concept was made by the dutch architect Mart Stam with gaspipes. He showed it to his collegues and they all started making their own versions. Afstammelingen II shows the gaspipe concept of stam amidst a lot of descendants. The dutch word for descendant is "afstammeling' and this word contains the word 'stam' (referring to Mart Stam) as well. The shadows shown in the image are the result of the working of real or artificial light and are not painted. The grid with the chairs is mounted about 0,5 cm above the gray background.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Ever since I can remember I'm drawing although I had no examples whatsoever in my childhood. I grew up on a small farm near Venlo in the the south of the Netherlands. The urge to draw finally lead to the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg where I graduated in 1990 in drawing and painting. From that time on I am working on a collection mostly dominated by chairs depicted in very different ways. Perspective and perception are crucial elements in this never ending quest. These works are drawn with pencil or painted with watercolor. Still driven by my urge to draw.
