About The Artwork

Expand Opportunities Series In my hometown, when I was little, there was a military airfield. As a child, my friends and I all dreamed of becoming pilots together. After I got acquainted with art, I always wanted to become an artist. We have grown. But one of my friends really became an airplane pilot. Google maps appeared and began to empower humanity. Viewing the planet through Google maps was like flying an airplane. Now everyone could feel like a pilot. Thanks a lot to the Google engineers for that.) In 2013, I wrote a series of such pictures inspired by my travels through fragments of the digital reality of Google maps. During these travels, I encountered images that warped my optical stereotypes. The planes at the airfields looked very unexpected. It seemed strange that the plane was not flying, but stuck to the ground. This inspired the absurdity of the situation, because in life we often see planes flying. In 2018, eco-activists said planes must stop flying to save the planet. Many laughed, and no one believed that flights could be stopped. At the time of self-isolation in 2020, all people were at home. Flights between the countries were suspended due to the threat of the rapid spread of Covid-19. And in the spring, traveling through Google maps remained the only travel option. I look at this episode and think about how to find my childhood pilot friend on social networks and teach him to draw. So that in self-isolation he could paint his dreams, and not be disappointed in the model of the world on the verge of global catastrophes.

Vlad Yurashko Born 1970 in Poltava, Ukraine Lives, study and works in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia I like painting as a medium. Through her, I try to talk about a complex, modern world. In 2011, I collaborated with Marina Abramovich as a reperformer during her retrospectives at the Garage Museum in Moscow. It was an unusual experience that made me see and experience reality through the stress of all the physical and emotional resources of my body. This invaluable experience inspired me to create a series of "Trapped in the Woods". After this series, my understanding of painting has changed. Now I create works of painting not only as conceptually distant images, reporting on the fact of the existence of the idea. But the paintings speak about the emotional and sensual experience of the painting process itself.
