About The Artwork

The viewer need not know the language of the people. Movement is a universal language, a common denominator across all cultures. As such, I hide the faces of dancers; they should be drawn into the movement and the story it tells in the viewer’s mind's eye. I use the scarfs to intensify the physics of the dancer movement; the gravity, momentum and energy.

Mimi Illouz was born in Casablanca, Morocco. From an early age, Mimi knew that art was her passion, Illouz studied Pattern making at Shenkar College of Design and Art, and subsequently worked in leading fashion companies as a designer and pattern maker. Mimi's move to Asia had become her inspiration and playground for her paintings. Illouz studied water color under the artist Stephen Thomas in Hong Kong, and after moving to Thailand, continued her studies with Professor Ari Sutiphont in Oil painting. The influence of Asia is prevalent in her work, which generates optimism, tranquility and the emphasis of colors and lights in original and aesthetically ways that form the figures places and moments. Sharing the beauty in other cultures, and showing that every place has its differences and yet many things in common which the viewers can relate to. Mimi’s innovative ecumenical paintings are topped off with vibrant colors and inspiring images that have been exhibited in various galleries throughout Asia. She aims to share different culture’s uniqueness through her art; by accepting others and accepting differences.
