About The Artwork
My exposure to the Dutch weather and my fascination with their cloud formations, kept me busy for years interrupting these images and translating them into my paintings. In combination with these impressions and my then collection of their telephone cards, which I used incessantly to call friends both in Holland and back home in the United States, became sources of inspiration for this composition. This painting was composed with the following materials: textured dental napkin paper for the clouds, pen and india inks, and mat medium. I just am fascinated by surface textures, the fluidity of the ink colors, the flow of the medium and the connection of clouds as a moving phenomenon accentuated by the beautiful imagery of the diverse picturesque cards and their inherent function to move me in contact with people who I wanted to connect to and keep our lines of communication open.
