About The Artwork

Labyrinths are found in many medieval churches in Europe where walking labyrinth path substituted pilgrimage at times when it was very dangerous to wonder around. Order versions relate to ancient myth from Crete, presenting king Minos, Minotaur beast having body of a man and head of a bull, also staring charming and clever princess Ariadne who guided her hero Theseus in and out of labyrinth. Ariadne can be seen as intuition, as a Soul, Anima, Inspiration etc, just to name few. Sometimes strength and information are not enough to get one out of perilous situation. Gentle voice of intuition or Spirit is worth paying attention to. Ariadne helped Theseus to get into the center of a problem and guided him back to safety. Moral of the story is applicable to art and life as well: trust intuition and keep going forward even when it feels as going in circles. I am coming back to motif of labyrinth over years and each time it speaks something new. Symbols are timeless and opening doors of understanding, with patience. Painted with oils on linen canvas, ready to hang.
