Attempting to Settle Print

I make abstract paintings with paper. I begin by applying several layers of paper on a canvas, and rip them apart and and peel them repeatedly after being dried. Once completed, it is left with an intense, tempestuous, and complicatedly textured surface laden with fiber debris from paper. Overall, my paintings have an archeological quality as viewers can sense different levels and layers of paper that have been intentionally built and destroyed, leaving empirically unforeseeable and incalculable complex traces, reminiscent of human emotions and nebulous natures of our lives and us. This process of art making involves a high level of craftsmanship, as it is extremely labor intensive and physical. Hence, I think of my work as something that blurs and crosses lines between art, design and craft. Lastly, my intention as an artist is to provide viewers with a sense of composure; at the same time, to sense the imminent messiness and convolutedness that exist right underneath the top layer.
