"Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape" During a hike in the woods, I believe it to be either Bear Mountain or the Catskills, I came across an interesting site. I knew it was suggestive of something but exactly, I wasn't sure. I took several camera shots combined with the day's work and went home. The picture stood out from all the others but I still wasn't sure. I knew it showed a rock within a grassy area. As I started to paint the image I was thinking more abstract from realism. With my particular style, I begin to imagine a skin tone of an organic shape. Later I begin to shape a head-like structure. On a roll, I begin to see an alien who had fallen to earth away from the spaceship. After this, I began to alter and change the shapes to conform to my idea.

Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape Retired on Long Island so there is more time for artwork, walking some, running some, and exploring a love of nature. God and family are there too. Currently, my artwork involves the use of colored pencils on quality paper. The theme is Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape. I use landscape imagery as a means to search for the unseen. Perhaps to uncover a mystery, to show a struggle, or to creatively suggest that there is more going on than we can see. Most of us are confronted with notions of something more than ourselves present in our environment. Forces are at work. Is evil real? I question if the human heart has really changed that much over time. Evil can be tempting. But, there is something holding evil back or all would be evil and I could not recognize it. The something must be greater than evil. But this will change too. Can one imagine the freedom to be had from experiencing the idea that there is no thought of evil from anyone, any institution, anywhere in the world? The struggle against evil actions such as killing, hurting, hatred, slavery, stealing, and others, will no longer be active and can finally find rest.
