The elegant Rococo works manufactured by the German Nymphenburg Ceramic Company in the 1760's were originally carved in wood by the Italian sculpture Anton Bustelli. These pieces became kitch in the 20th Century despite the high level of craftsmanship employed to create them. Yet their suggestions of the the most basic human need - love - remains. The overlap of the harsh modern Reitvelt chair is there to remind us that although time marches on we need to pause and reflect on the accomplishments of the past and the historic views of life. This painting is one of a group of paintings nd Giclee works by Lauder Bowden inspired by the Bustelli work at Nymphemburg.
