About The Artwork

Oil on canvas stretcher 28 x 34 cm One night, I was cycling past the bandstand on Brighton beachfront when I saw a group of salsa dancers. I took some photos and edited them to make a focus on two of them. Then I painted this with oils on a canvas stretcher. I love the luminous feeling - again, this is due to to complements - this time, green and red. And the pale tints against the saturated mass of colour. I worked with the hint of motion conveyed by the photographic blur. PS - when I posted this on Facebook the dancers recognised it - Patricia De Souza wrote "That's my Bandstand Bailando event.... Salseros dancing on the bandstand every Wednesday evening- just for the love of dancing!! Great painting!!" The night I took this photo was 22 October 2014.

I use creativity to explore my identity, to interpret and meditate on mind, body, nature, the world. I paint and draw and write and sometimes combine all three in digital mediums. Some of my recent work reflects the social and political reality. I've been drawing from life in pastels, pencils and charcoal since my teens. I've been painting since 2007, and have been involved in artists groups in Manchester, Zimbabwe and Brighton. I'm a Dad and I live in Brighton. My parents were both artists.
