Basil in Jewel Vase Print

This flower portrait is a little different, one afternoon last summer I arrived home to this gorgeous little pot on my doorstep, it was overflowing with leaves of sweet smelling basil, fat and curled and full of character and lovingly grown and delivered by one of my neighbors. The sprigs were bedecked with lovely white blossoms which offset the greens of the leaves in a most fetching manner. I depicted the little basil plant in this portrait, growing out of a gem vase in purple and blue swirls with marbled veins of gold. The pot sits on a white tablecloth and a sliver of pink wall shows in the background. The leaves overflow the pot and, indeed, the composition itself, reaching jauntily outwards. The paintwork is thick and textured with a delightful chalky matte finish and some of the leaves have crayon detailing emphasizing their shapes.
