There's a specific beach that my daughter is quite fond of not too far from our family home. She is particularly fond of how sparkly the sand is in the sunlight, and the people riding their horses in the waves. This piece is a pure expression of my memories of this beach with my family as we watch people ride their horses through the surf.

Best known for her dreamlike portraiture and poetic expressive style, Libby Sipe has been working with multiple painterly mediums to analyze tantalizing questions revolving around life, love, and loss since 2018. Primarily a self taught artist, Libby has been influenced by the works of many post war modern artists. A selection of her works were published in the inaugural issue of Boomer Magazine in 2020, and she has been involved in a number of group exhibitions. Libby’s first solo exhibition was in the summer of 2021. Originally hailing from Ohio in the mid west region of the United States, Libby resides in a small town situated in Southern Maine. She lives with her husband Kevin, their young daughter, and cat. Many years ago I came to realize that I could no longer picture my fathers face in its entirety. This cognizance not only left me feeling hollow and lost, but hurt and betrayed by my own mind. Pulling from this emotional trauma, I began creating works that reflected what I was feeling inside. Using painterly mediums paired with collage to create a work that poetically captured the feeling of life, love, and loss. As my practice matures, I find myself delving further into questions pertaining to my earliest inspiration. Not only is this leading to works yet to be created, but it is also inspiring larger scale pieces that are testing the bounds of my intuitive, perceptive and artistic abilities. This pushes me to hone my skills in painting to fully encompass my thoughts within the frame of a canvas. My personal exploration within my studio has been an adventure of eye opening questions with very little answers to put to them. But none-the-less I feel more at ease within my mind as I continue to explore through the process of smearing paint and relying on my intuition to guide me and hopefully the viewer through troubled times and difficult topics that no one should face alone.
