About The Artwork

This piece is one of several that make up my ongoing series of portraits featuring bisexual individuals. The series 'Bi-Erasure' aims to combat the invisibility and biphobia experienced by many bi people both inside and outside of queer spaces. Each work is accompanied by text written by the subject, in an effort to amplify the voices of bi folks. Betty's text: As a queer mother in a heterosexual relationship, I have occasionally had my sexuality questioned, but more often than not, my sexuality hasn’t even been considered. I have noticed two sides of the coin since becoming a mother, a huge part of my identity as not only queer, but as a woman who has always owned her sexuality, has been almost entirely removed from the conversation. I have never been shy in talking about being queer, but frankly without it pertaining to pelvic floor exercises, me as a sexual being has almost never been address in the last 3 years since becoming pregnant and giving birth. I mourn for the confident and sexually empowered woman who has been dissolved.
