About The Artwork

View from Round Tower over Copenhagen old town. The work of Bygmester Finnegan, the father HCE, his guilt, his shortcommings, his failures which pervade Finnegans Wake. "man of hod, cement and edifices" or Haroun Childeric Eggeberth, identifying him with the initials HCE. When HCE is first introduced in the book, in the beginning he was an grand old gardener, equating him with Adam in the Garden of Eden. But the painting can also be interpreted as a blue green city, adapted to global warning, more rain and heat in the future. In Finnegans Wake Adam commits a crime in a garden (in a park).

Zonation paintings focus on integrating and balancing the elements: lines, tones and colours. I follow an expressionist painting philosophy inspired by Cézanne, Kleé and followers. Motives: Copenhagen cityscapes, croquis, stilleben. Artworks in acrylics, oil, aqua oil, multicoloured chalk, aquarelle and pencils. Artist video: http://vimeo.com/5322606 Artist podcast (Fr): http://podcloud.fr/podcast/choses-a-savoir-art/episode/artiste-a-decouvrir-hans-jorgen-henriksen I use the acronym 'de Hansi' in order to distinct my painting activities from my professional work as a hydrologist. I am a Danish hydrologist currently working as a principal investigator and researcher at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland at Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 in Copenhagen (working in close cooperation with Copenhagen University institute for geology and geography). I am known for my research in the field of hydrogeology, with a focus on groundwater resources and their management, as well as the impact of climate change on groundwater systems. I have published many papers in the international scientific journals, and I am also a member of several scientific organisations.
