About The Artwork

Painterly rendering of a Caribbean island girl. This initially began more as an abstract, yet later morphed more into a portraiture. Enjoyed making this using only the colors which reminded me of the island and the vibe of that interaction. Fun stuff!

Barry was born and raised in Detroit. Now residing in Los Angeles and raising a son over the past 20 years. He is a self-taught artist who has primarily used acrylic and latex paints since the 1980's. "Art is mental and spiritual therapy" he says. "It soothes the soul during the worst of times … childhood memories, tragic losses, heartbreaks, professional failures, even financial ruins. It is the visual galvanization of self-reflections." Barry has sold most works locally until discovering Saatchiart. "I have participated in many exhibitions in Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles over the years. Yet it is a global venue now. My focus is creating painterly abstracts that can invigorate and evoke a variety of thoughtful perceptions, which most times vary from person to person. That is the underlying beauty of abstract paintings ... personal perception." His latest works shown here are a direct result of the COVID lockdown to present. The isolation caused by the lockdown was profound. It allowed for a deeper introspection which led to mostly colorful abstractions ... from isolation comes solace.
