Bruce Springsteen musical style and influences are multiple: in addition to the two major influences that are Elvis Presley (for the ardour, the gestures) and Bob Dylan (for the literary quality, the poetic power, the political conscience), we can mention Tim Hardin, whose title Reason to believe he uses for one of his songs, or Woody Guthrie, singer-guitarist of folk music and spokesman of the popular classes (also a great influence for Bob Dylan at his beginnings). He also draws his inspiration from his readings, notably that of John Steinbeck, whose character of Tom Joad he takes up, or Jack Kerouac and Jack London, the former for his vision of the world, the latter for his way of life. In his songs, the figure of the good (North) American family man, humble worker, convinced patriot, believer and practitioner, a typical character of the great novels published in the United States in the first half of the twentieth century, frequently appears in his songs.
