I’ve been asked before, why I choose such absurdly obvious names für my works. Well, as unimaginative as they may seem, there is a good reason for that. I believe in the notion that, the more time you are willing to take to discover a painting, the more it will honour your effort and give something back to you. The names I give to my paintings are a challenge to the spectator, a throwing down of the gauntlet. It’s a dare to see beyond the obvious. In a way they are my own tiny protest against superficiality, by ironically being superficial. If it is mere bubbles you are looking at, then the painting won’t give you any more than just bubbles. I could have named this painting “An interwoven veil of thoughts and dreams expanding across the fantastic diversity of the human soul”, but that would have made it just too easy. The truth is, that my Bubbles depict a dreary, sad period in the life of an otherwise quite cheerful person. But telling you any more than that would mean bearing my true soul. And that would go too far.
