About The Artwork

This bull is from my childhood memories. He tried to attack me, pierce me with its horns but fortunately I managed to hide. I remember this moment and the bull clearly. The very first feeling of fear of death in its purest form.

Sofia Tsintsadze (Georgian, b.1999) is an emerging multi-media artist, mainly interested in painting and tex- tile art. During 2018-2022, she majored in Visual Arts at VA[A]DS (Visual Arts, Architecture and Design School), Free University Tbilisi. Sofia is currently living and working in Tbilisi. Her roots as an artist grows out of her love of childish explorations, and the realization of the pure beauty of life. However, she is a hopeless and unashamed daydreamer - and working in the studio is exactly how she chooses to daydream, while imagining how her past and present experiences intersect. Often working intui- tively to let her unconscious come to the surface, 'errors' are one of the key elements in Sofia Tsintsadze's work, as they are so free and often misjudged, and underrated - in other words, they lead her to the places, she wouldn't choose to go otherwise. Sofia often draws inspiration from mythology, fairy tales, and legends from different cultures, which help her to find meaning to her own thoughts. However, In her refusal to choose or espouse only one, Sofia is both the childlike naif that the romantic notion of an artist would have her be and the intellectual and sophisticated conceptual artist who insists on the viewer's self-conscious participation. Sofia perceives that the underlying motivations for her art lie in unresolved psychological dilemmas originat- ing in her childhood. Growing up in an Orthodox family, she often perceived the body and the soul as two dif- ferent materia, and therefore resulting in a lot of hostilities towards herself and the universe, too. This query created a certain kind of alienation from the whole world and, on the other hand, an urge to daydream.
