About The Artwork

This is a 16x20 canvas fixed within a handmade wood box frame. Its abstract as there is no clear form or purpose, but the theme is clear. Had one person describe it as Steampunk tortilla chips! For me, I just love metal and things made out of it. Its something that is rooted deep in human advancement and technology and at its earliest emergence - survival and advantage. Metal is also something we use to associate value with... this piece is not made of copper at all, it is cardboard made to look more valuable than it really is... something to think about!

The term emerging artist doesn't quite describe me, what is it that I am emerging from? Is it anonymity? Is it a great swirling mass of the boring day to day? Meaninglessness? I did not emerge from anything, I am still beneath that surface unable to breathe seeking a clear path through the throng of every other artist clawing their way to the top. Like some kind of surface growth on a forest floor I am seeking sunlight to survive... I think Ive always been an artist, and it wasn't really a choice for me. The choice I did have was what to do with the skills and perspective inherent. Growing up this "talent" did more to isolate me than anything else. In school I would daydream and doodle constantly. My various career attempts were sabotaged by my realization that what I really wanted to do was to satiate my compulsion to be alone with my sketchbook or paintbrushes and a new canvas. As much as I fought against and attempted to compromise these two facets, art always won. Its my passion, and after many years Ive come to accept that I will never be a successful business person, or a doctor or entrepreneur, just an artist and dreamer.
