About The Artwork

Contained #2 forms part of a series of works by Simon, which are dedicated to the exploration of the seemingly endless facets of the human condition. To achieve this he draws his inspiration from both personal experience, and also themes taken from philosophy, and psychology. He chooses to express these subjects primarily using form and colour. For example, a warm vibrant colour may represent a positive element of the subject in hand, while in contrast, a cooler hue signify its polarity. He gives equal importance to expressing the subject in hand, as the aesthetic qualities of the finished piece.

Simon Bolton graduated from Art School in 1989, and has been dedicated to his artistic practice ever since. His work is held in private collections, both in his native United Kingdom, and throughout the world. His choice of artistic expression is probably best described as symbolic representation. He uses both form, and colour, to explore the seemingly endless themes relating to the human condition. Much of this is drawn from personal experience, but also concepts taken from both philosophy, and psychology. His intention is that his work remains faithful in its representation of its subject, but also gives equal consideration towards its aesthetic qualities. Most importantly, he hopes his work will evoke emotion in the viewer, and lead them into a state of contemplation.
