ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Amber's work focuses on her own dream imagery and symbolism. This painting is part of her Hit and Sunk Series depicting twin film noir style detectives. Beginning each painting by pouring the paint onto the canvas she then works with the random outcome of the pour. This gives her subconscious another chance to play; it is amorphous, flowing and changes direction like the dream itself. The poured paint balloons outward, in a way that invokes the feeling of a dream as it floats and disperses through the mind on waking. Amber’s use of colour can be expressive, bold or soft, depending on the nature or feeling of the dream. She makes use of transparencies and layering, further conveying the fragmentary, ethereal quality of an elusive memory.

Amber was born in Truro, Great Britain and graduated from Reading University in 2001. She has always had a love for art and studied sculpture at A-Level. Art took a back seat while she completed her degree and post graduate training and it was another 10 years before her passion for art was reignited after attending a weekly evening class in life drawing. The class ran for 8 week blocks but she stayed with the group for two years! Moving to Canada in 2010 provided Amber an opportunity for a change in career direction and she now works as an artist from her home on Vancouver Island. The island is an exceptionally creative place and Amber has continued her art education, taking classes and workshops with artists from the local community. Amber is a member of Thrive Art Studio, a group providing accountability and support to female artists. Amber`s work featured in Boxed Sanctuary, a juried show at the Robert Batemen Centre in Victoria, BC. She has recently been selected by the City of Victoria to participate in a project that brings emerging artists and public art together. Amber also participates in group shows with several local arts organisations.
