Bold, dynamic composition, the heavily textured surface, and the beautiful color scheme make the “Cosmic Voyage” an artwork difficult to pass without taking a closer look at it. This large painting would make a fantastic focal point in a modern interior. The inspiration for this art piece came to me on a walk with my dog in my suburban neighborhood. It was a sunny spring day, after a rain. My eyes were hit by the beauty of the paddles shimmering with golden sunlight by the road. From the distance, they seemed like tiny jewels, but when approached, they became portals to infinite worlds. I started to think about how miraculous substance water is, how life depends on it, and how in some parts of the world people take it for granted. These reflections were like seeds of influence on a “Cosmic Voyage”, though, when working on the actual painting, I did not think literally about illustrating the subject, which was just sitting in the back of my mind. I enjoyed pouring splots of blue on my wood panel, then I had fun surrounding them with elevated paper. Step after step I let my subconscious lead me on a creative journey. This painting represents my interests that are constant to the whole body of work, like nature as different expressions of energy; an ongoing struggle between building forces and forces of destruction; human beings as a microscopic bundles of energy in the vast and mysterious Universe; and fragility of Life. This painting also stands as a good example showing my trademark mixed-media technique, in which paper plays a particularly important role, not only as a tool for creating textures, but also as a source of positive, warm energy.
