About The Artwork

My ex partner was a type one diabetic and living with them was a wake up call to the absolute atrocity that is the health care system. Diabetes is something that will kill you if untreated. Type one or juvenile diabetes is something you have no control over and hits you in your youth. it already changes your entire life and then having outlandish costs just to survive is insult to injury. This painting was a mix of me being angry and trying to draw attention. 80% of the proceeds for this piece and prints will be donated to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation.

I've been drawing and painting as long as I can remember, though it was about the seventh grade that I told my parents that I wanted to make a career out of it. I've been incredibly passionate about creating pieces that speak to my heart, and hopefully touch others as well. I was accepted to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2009, but due to financial reasons was unable to attend. That wasn't the end of the world though as I had truly AMAZING training in high school thanks to John Harder at Hermantown High School in Minnesota (seriously, the man is a legend). He gave me the foundation I needed and with critic from my peers and continuous practice, I feel I've been able to continue to grow. People often ask me why I didn't go later. I decided I didn't need tons of debt to be an artist (not a dig to anyone that did go!) and I've always been working on a freelance basis. That's been fun for me. I can do a bit of everything from photography, jewellery making, drawing, mixed media, and comic work (mostly manga), though my strongest practice is definitely paint. Acrylics, oils, and my favourite is, you guessed it...WATERCOLOURS! I take requests for custom pieces and have my own line of work available for sale as well. I generally send everything either mounted or framed so that it can be easily displayed and take extreme care with delivery/shipping. I put a lot of love into everything I create so I want it to get to you safely! Feel free to contact me with any inquires. -Lilly Eller aka Terrible Watercolours
