ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Cotton Club was a Jazz Club of Harlem at the time of Harlem Rennaissance, represent the beginning of Jazz age from turn of the century through Roaring 20s until SEGREGATION became the law. As if slavely wasn't enough, African Americans had to endure inhumanity, lived in the nation encouraged to kill them. They survived through undescribable conditions, picked up bits and pieces from anywhere possible and when very few of them started to make the humble living they had to face the extortion and forced to live in fear for many years. ***More artist comments and artwork can be seen at

“I remembered I wanted to go to Switzerland to become a shepherdess. Then one day when I was walking I saw the sun lightened up the hill through the woods. Then I realize I am living in where I dream. I am not a shepherdess but I can go to the berry picking with cheese and ham sandwiches on the rolling hill of Oregon. We have the ArtWalk in the community where my studio is. There are live art, on the spot drawing by pedestrians, poll table in the tent, unusual bicycles and rickshas running on the street. I remembered I wanted to go to Montmartre Paris, to live with artists like the way the impressionists lived. Then I realized I am living in an artists’ colony here in Portland Oregon just like Montmartre Paris. Hey! Life is good. When I was younger and insecure about myself I was strongly influenced by other styles. But Now I look and find what I was searching for was within. Sometimes I paint Nostalgic Portland scenes with lifestyles of people and places, a collective momentum of a past that permeates the present. Like Utrillo and Lautrec painted Paris, I paint Portland pictures for peace and comfort. More information can be found at Redbubble, in the comments area of the "Explore Designs" section.
