ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting: Oil and Acrylic on canvas A new take on classic artworks by great masters, in this case picturing the greek mythology of Danae, based on the creation by Jan Marbuse in 1527. The artwork shows the prophecy of the Oracle, the efforts to not let them come true and the unsuccessfulnes of those efforts. The Oracle foretold a prophecy in which the kings grandson will murder him and take over the kingdom. In effort to stop this, the king Akrisios jailed away his daughter, so that she may not have children. But Zeus took a liking to Danae, and came down in a form of a goldshower and impregnated her with a child, Perseus. As Perseus and the king Akrisios never met before, Perseus killed his grandfather, just as the Oracle told in her prophecy.
