Dancing Shoes is the first in a series of watercolours portraying female members of my close circle of family and friends, begun in 2022 and which is ongoing. I ask them for a favourite or meaningful pair of shoes and then choose botanicals which I feel represent something about them from my perspective. They are a joint vision, a collaboration. My Mum is in her 80’s and has downsized several times, so when she produced this pair of dancing shoes which nobody had ever seen before, it was a surprise. They hold fond memories for her, particularly because they have remained in her possession despite several ‘culls’ over the years. The original watercolour was selected to appear in the Turner Contemporary in 2022. It is now offered as a limited edition, giclee print in all A sizes to order, price range on application. The range of ‘shoes’ grows every month.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Angela graduated from TMS in 2021 with a European Masters Degree and UCA Canterbury in 2010 with BA(Hons) in sculpture. She is now an Associate member of the So Irtysh of Graphic Fine Arts and has exhibited with them in the Mall Galleries. Her work was accepted into the 2023 RI exhibition at the Mall Galleries and she was recently longlisted for both the Holly Bush and Jackson’s Art Prizes, receiving an Excellence Award as one of the top 200 artists in the International Watercolour Masters competition, 2024. Angela also sculpts in both ceramics and stone, drawing inspiration from the human condition. Her work is firmly based in the genre of portraiture and informed by her many and constant sketches. To Angela, drawing forms the essential basis of all art. Her work is held in both public and private collections across the world and in 2008/9 she won both Niagara Falls and Fattorini prizes for her medallic sculptures. She went on to have her pieces showcased in the British Museums HSBC Gallery for 3 consecutive years, appearing in publications alongside this too.
