About The Artwork

Acrylic Paint & Ink with Texture (Mixed Media) on Canvas, thin gallery wrap (.75") with painting around edges. Wired & ready to hang. The first Saturday of June I was fortunate enough to attend Redbird’s 20th Children of Many Colors Native American Powwow. That morning during the second set of the gourd dancers 2 hawks suddenly appeared and began to circle high above, directly above the powwow. While they only stayed long enough for the gourd dance before disappearing as quickly as they came, I chose to portray a Native dancer in full regalia because I could still feel their presence for long after, throughout the many styles of dances of the powwow. For the past year I have also been fortunate to see hawks at my home almost daily since they appeared in this area for the first time at least in my lifetime, and they often bring me messages in my sleep. Even when I don’t see them, I can hear still them nearby, watching over me, for often times even when we can not see the presence of those guiding and protecting us, they are still there, something we must always remember to be grateful for. I am grateful to have seen those 2 beautiful hawks that morning at the powwow, as well as the hawks that moved into my area as well as the new baby hawks that have begun to fly about the past few weeks, and to receive the many blessings those hawks and all the other hawks that visit me, and I am truly honored by their presence.
