About The Artwork

Watercolor painting of Santa riding on his reindeer sleigh over the hills to deliver his gifts, one in a series of watercolors I painted for the 2017 Christmas season. Christmas is about many things for me ... like reading aloud "Christmas Carol" by Dickens with my family and creating light in the darkest time of the year. Creating warmth inside when it’s cold outside. How perhaps we all have a little bit of the mean cold Ebenezer Scrooge inside wanting to be transformed into joyous and self-abandoned giving. It really is a good story. I do feel the Christmas spirit, and perhaps a little more with every passing year. So I painted four watercolors recently inspired by this special season. Here Santa is riding on his sleigh with his magical reindeer. Magic exists, and it is in our hearts if anywhere. I used Daniel Smith Extra Fine watercolor paint including some Daniel Smith iridescent colors that subtly enhance the artwork. On Arches watercolor paper, which is made of 100% cotton.

Zsuzsanna Rossetter was born and raised in Hungary and moved to the United States in 1997. Art has accompanied her all her life and she started to draw at a very early age. Zsuzsa watched her father draw figures and carve wood sculptures, and was especially fascinated by the African face painted in black hanging on the wall of their home that he had made from a half-split log. She grew up in a house with a large garden where everything seemed magical to her: the ferns, fruit trees, and the flowers in springtime. Zsuzsa’s grandparents had a large farm where she would climb on the cherry trees with her cousins. All this created a deep affinity in her toward the natural world and the living things in it.
