About The Artwork

I am always inspired by Asian calligraphy and wanted to make a piece that used paint with only one stroke - and I wanted it to be thick. When I lifted the paint, I saw a snake-like line. I surrounded the line with green netting and black debris. I also placed gauze on the paper and then using flesh-like colors, made it look more animistic. The title comes from a conversation I was having with a friend about someone who recently died rather suddden. With a Warholian deadpan delivery I said "Death Takes everything." It seemed appropriate for this work.

Paul Beaudoin was born just outside of Miami FL and lived for many years in Boston, Massachusetts. For more than a decade he has taught art history, but as for being an artist himself, he has an interesting story. "When I was getting my Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, I had an in-house critique. One of the evaluators said that because my "brush strokes go in every direction, you couldn't possibly be an artist.” This harsh comment shut down the young artist for more than 30 years. In 2015, while on a Fulbright Scholarship in Estonia, Dr Beaudoin had a reawakening of his expressive visual side. Beginning with bold high definition photography, he quickly moved to mixed media by adding things “into and on” his photographs. Upon his return to the US, he has made up for the lost time. If they serve a purpose in his artistic, sensitive and expressive intent, Paul is not afraid to use any kind of material. Even though he gave up formal training, he has spent many years studying and teaching contemporary art at the Graduate level and is fond of the American Post WWII Abstract Expressionist movement. He has often written about the work of the New York School and post-Modern art. Dr Beaudoin has had numerous exhibitions of his work around the world. His “Deeper than Surface Meanings” was chosen to be shown in the Abstract Expressionism Now show at the coveted Museum of Modern Art in New York City. His video and audio work has been seen in Croatia, England, Estonia, and the United States. His work is now frequently exhibited in galleries around the world and held in private collections. In addition to being an accomplished visual artist, Paul is an active professional composer and highly respected online educator, public speaker, and published writer.
