About The Artwork

Edward Abbey, noted naturalist and author, wrote this: "There are several ways of looking at Delicate Arch. Depending on your preconceptions you may see the eroded remnants of a sandstone fin, a giant engagement ring cemented in rock, a bow-legged pair of petrified cowboy chaps, a triumphal arch for a procession of angels, an illogical freak, a happening.... If Delicate Arch has any significance it lies, I will venture, in the power of the odd and unexpected to startle the senses and surprise the mind out of their ruts of habit, to compel us into a reawakened awareness of the wonderful-that which is full of wonder." Delicate Arch is located in Arches National Park, near Moab in SE Utah. 8" x 10" acrylic on canvas board framed and matted to a finished size of 14" x 17". A photo of the finished work can be provided on inquiry.

Bob grew up in northern New Jersey, graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, to pursue graduate studies at North Carolina State University. In Raleigh, he fell in love with nature at Umstead and Eno River State Parks and joined the Capital Group Sierra Club. He later became Chair of the club and founder of the Triangle Environmental Network. Bob and his wife, Jill, moved to South Carolina and have the great fortune to live in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The incredible hiking opportunities in the area provide the creative spark for his artworks in oil and acrylic painting and his nature photography.
