About The Artwork

With this painting I was working with the elements of faith. The painting shows a red dinghy drifting between rocks on a misty river. Is the dinghy moored? Where is it coming from, and where is it going to? I wanted to convey the feeling that our journey through life and faith isn't fixed. There are many unknowns. But at the same time, if we keep our eyes open, the universe will give us the means to make our way safely through the mist. This is an oil on canvas. Ready to be hung.

Michael Chomse studied Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, South Africa, in the late seventies. It was a tumultuous time. He moved from there directly into a career as a documentary filmmaker, seeking the wider audiences that film offered his growing social conscience. Through thirty years of filmmaking, he has honed his visual and storytelling skills to the point where direct contact with paint and canvas is a necessity for his future development. He continues telling stories that have impacted him through the medium of paint on canvas . He is currently working closely with select artists in Europe, Canada and the USA, developing work that reflects a global perspective in the search for a new visual language.
