About The Artwork

This is a mural painting of "Drishti Ganesha" using acrylic paint on canvas. According to mythology, "Drishti Ganesha" is believed to ward off evil eyes and bring prosperity to where they reside. This is a rare form of Ganesha as the painting depicts the form of Ganesh with a Third Eye. Every mural has to be drawn with a set of rules that define the colors, features, shades, proportions and elements that should be included in a mural painting. Kerala Murals should only be created with 5 colors. The amount of detailing and strict rules of creation, makes the art of Kerala Mural painting rarely created by individuals in the current world. The Drishti Ganesha Mural follows precisely the rules of mural painting and is created with extreme precision. The painting is sized 4ft (height) x 2ft (width) The painting took more than 180 hours to be completed. The painting is framed with finest wooden frame with a hardboard as the base. Sudha Hari is an artist from India specializing in Kerala Mural paintings. Kerala Mural paintings are frescos depicting mythology and legends, which are drawn on the walls of temples and churches in South India, principally in Kerala. Ancient temples, churches and palaces in Kerala, South India, display an abounding tradition of mural paintings mostly dating back between the 9th to 12th centuries CE when this form of art enjoyed Royal patronage. Sudha is interested in making hand crafted paintings using acrylic on canvas. She also creates murals (only on request) using natural colors (made from flowers, sand, mud, leaf etc.) on wood, and other materials as it was created in its period. The painting is done in its original tradition; the work doesn't start before completing a vrata (religious practice) of 41 days. She is also passionate about creating other painting forms, and also teaches mural drawing to enthusiasts.
