____________________ Drop A drop can be a drop of water or a tear. Although it is tiny, it has the ability to carry all sorts of meanings. One tear is enough to let you know if someone is sad or extremely happy. And aspects of polarity like this one make this painting more objective. When you look at the world through a drop you can see how everything turns around, expands or thins out. The interaction of dimensions with each other can be observed. I wanted to create this effect artistically and therefore I painted a white water surface as a projection of the third dimension on paper. I took blue colo(u)r because we often associate it with water and painted brushstrokes that were in the second dimension but played with the water surface. This gave the artwork more depth, distance and proximity. The closeness of the viewer to this artwork makes this painting even more entertaining. Suddenly, urban objects like a street, a skateboard or a car are visible. Blue paint and two sharp pieces of mirror foil are sharing the papers white surface. They also give this Painting elements of a collage. Drop is an Artwork which is part of the Reflection series. The artworks of this series have the imprint of my experimentation with the concept of "the Beholder's Share". The beholder’s share is that an artwork is completed in the viewers mind. The viewer interprets in a subjective way what s/he sees while viewing the artwork. With this interaction with the painting s/he is adding meaning to the artwork. To make this dialog and transcendence with the viewer stronger and more realistic, I cut two pieces of mirror foil in the right shape and stuck it on the papers surface. What I really love about the reflective area on Drop is that it affirms it is about you and there is something about you in it. The white background embodies one of many meanings of the homonym "reflection". White as an image of the interplay of many thoughts and reflections in one’s mind. The water surface as well as the mirror foil embodies the physical definition of the homonym in this painting.
