About The Artwork

There was an artist, who was also a priest, whose artwork was exhibited at a gallery in Arizona. I cannot remember his name for the moment. However, his artwork caught my eye because of its heavy layers and textures. I also remember he used red, black, and white a lot. It was very bold work and stayed with me after the visit. Many years later, I was teaching a workshop out of my basement, living with my daughter as a single Mom the year I began created this. I was showing some of the workshops students tricks with gel medium, spray paint, reverse transfer and using texture with acrylics. Later on I moved to East Vancouver which for some unknown reason has a flock of crows that fly there every night from other parts of Vancouver. Because of that actually, I think the black crow represents East Vancouver. It was also the symbol used to mark studios during the East Side Culture Crawl. I finished the painting by adding the crows and named it East Van Birds because of the crow phenomena where I was living at the time.
