ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting was inspired by traditional Islamic arts. During the Ottoman empire, special talisman pots were made for the sultans to wear in wars. This painting, inspired by talisman shirts, was given the name Esma-ül Hüsna. 99 names of Allah's writings are written in secret on the picture. The painting was made using acrylic paint on canvas cloth. In addition, cracking varnish was used. The use of calligraphic images is a send to traditional Islamic culture.

As a contemporary artist, I try to do my duty. I paint with my individual style shaped by my experimental works and background. Reminding the viewers with the cultural and religious images I placed into the texture and colour plasticism I formed on the palette, I try to form memory between the past and the present. I donot think that the detachment of art from its roots is right. In the world that is being globalised, a global culture comes into being. Without recognising the limits the art is becoming afinity. The intercultural differences are disappearing. On the one hand, this formation is increasing the individual creativity; on the other hand, it is hiding the cultural richness. What emerge are monotype human and monotype productions. This is disturbing to me. Art should not be detached from its roots, there should be cultural and human aspects to it. It should have virtue and values. I am fictionalising my art based on values. I am trying to build paint plasticism that is a bridge between past and present. I am a muslim artist. I am picking my images from cultural layers and refer to the cultural layer among the cultural layers.
