There is a place in Utah where the northern mountains are a clear flat rock surface facing west. It is called The School Room. Rock climbers, mountain bikers and hikers enjoy this area daily. Certain times of the year, when the sun is setting the mountain walls fiercely light up making them looks orange, pink and red. It is stunning. I took my inspiration from this experience. I laid out a large rolled up canvas on my spare bedroom floor and smeared, dripped, and splattered acrylic paint. I took the canvas to my bathroom and let water run down the surface of the canvas into my bath. I wanted to see the shape of the mountains form naturally just like they do in nature. After the initial layer dried, I kept adding the thinest layers of paint intending to create subtle dynamics and let the painting look different under different lighting. I stamped acrylic paint and used illustration markers to had the the textural variations. I left the texture of the canvas rough - it is not stretched precisely. I did this intentionally to show more ruggedness; more authenticity; more natural. "Evening" does shift in different lightings. It is lovely. **Please note that this painting is shipped in a crate and will take a few days to build.

I am a painter, illustrator, choreographer, and poet. I studied dance in university and relate movement to all of my artworks. I live near the Rocky Mountains in Utah and always find ways to enjoy them - rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, etc. I have been inspired by writers like Emerson, Thoreau, Muir and Von Humboldt to get out and appreciate the natural beauty of the world. When I paint after I have sat and taken snapshots in my mind of a particular scene, I think back to not only the colors and textures but how the view made me feel. I often use glazing, paint dripping and stamping in my paintings. These effects get me closer to that gut feeling that nature gives me. I usually end up really, really liking my paintings and hope you do too!
