About The Artwork

The eternally beautiful, eternally anchored as a theme in my work: Palenque. I visited the legendary city in the jungle in 2008 on my round trip through Yucatan/Mexico and the neighbouring Chiapas and was so enchanted by this complex and its mysterious architecture that I have refered to it again and again in my painting ever since. The striking tower, which is part of the palace and has also found its place in this painting, usually plays a central role in those works. The painting "Ewig" was created in a mixed technique on the basis of acrylic paints, whereby the background was applied in a flat pouring and spraying technique, and for the foreground including the buildings the paint was applied with a spatula . In this way, on the one hand the depth effect is subtly enhanced and, on the other hand, the mystical and mysterious inherent in Palenque is emphasised. For as with most of my other works, whose subjects contain landscapes, buildings and historical relics, I am not concerned with the exact depiction of what I have seen, but in particular with the visualization of the atmosphere I perceive on site.

In his works, the artist deals in particular with the impressions of his travels, which lead him together with his wife around the whole world. Focal points are among others landscape abstractions, lost cultures as well as the confrontation with the consequences of human action. The paint serves as a means of expression, which enables him to visualize the processed themes both in one and three dimensions. "The predominantly abstract works of the Dresden artist Andreas Garbe impress the viewer with their sure colour aesthetics, stylistic independence and, last but not least, their craftsmanship.Whether captivating liveliness, almost magical calm or refreshing lightness - Andreas Garbe masters the expressiveness of the colours, lets them shine powerfully from their deepest interior and has thus found the answer to a question that the painter has always had to face. But Andres Garbe is also one of those who are in search, in search of the possibilities of the artistic realization of the experienced and learned. His themes range from history to the present: under the impression of his travels, he brings the mythologies of different cultures to life, tells in his works of impressive experiences of nature or, last but not least, reflects on the eternal and interpersonal. A demanding approach that challenges the intellectual as well as the sensitive viewer and which Andreas Garbe himself faces with great seriousness" Petra Klein, September 2009 In order to allow his artistic expression more scope for freedom and to be able to experiment in a more varied way, Garbe signs certain works with Julio Fernandez or Raphael König.
