My paintings are tough to capture on camera as each is built up with four or five layers of oil paint, some of it opaque, some translucent. I start with plein-air sketches in the venue to really feel what it was like that day both in terms of my surroundings and my own mood. When you're in front of this piece, you really feel like you're melting into the feeling of fall, sun shimmering through the cathedral ceiling of leaves, highlights of orange, red and yellow scattered throughout. My drips are my signature piece and they come as the last layer, to truly force the viewer to start dissolving into the objects, not seeing the boundaries between them. The drips create another composition, a conversation between reality and abstraction.

Diana Stelin's captivating expressionist landscapes have garnered international attention with contracts at Google, shows at Novartis and works in dozens of private collections worldwide. Ms. Stelin strips down and reconstructs traditional notions of landscape painting, using the medium of paint as the subject itself. Blurring the lines between imagery and surface, her work frequently turns borderline abstract, yet is always centered on a theme of her surroundings. Born in 1979 in Chisinau, Moldova, Stelin lives and works in Boston. She received a BFA in Visual Arts from Cornell University in 2001, followed by an MS in Arts Administration from Boston University in 2007, Recipient of the Johnson Museum of Art's 1999 "Cornell Council for the Arts,” Ms. Stelin had managed DTR Modern Galleries for eight years, overseeing the gallery's participation in multiple international art fairs, and establishing long standing artist relationships for its four outposts around US. She's now represented by Invoke Contemporary.
