About The Artwork

Oil portrait of a pensive young black woman in the style of expressionism. "Hope for the sunshine after the darkness is gone." Have you ever met the dawn outdoors as a child? Do you remember yourself shivering from the cold and being scared by the sounds of nature coming from nowhere? Do you remember the thought - the dawn will never come? Sure, you knew the Sun would rise as it rises every day, though, at that moment, you really could not believe it just because it had nowhere to appear. Folk wisdom says, "the darkest hour of all is the hour before day." When this darkest hour happens in your life, these words don't come to mind first, as they didn't come when you were a child many years ago. You are afraid and have no hope for the future when the sun rises on the horizon again, as if this hour is needed for your spirit to challenge it, for your mind to rethink something important, and for your body to reconnect with both your spirit and mind. And sooner or later, the Sun begins to rise, but you don't see it for some time - there is still darkness that obscures it, and everything that remains to do is to hope for the sunshine after the darkness is gone. ♥︎ JOIN ME on Instagram @annamiklashevich

Anna is an experienced Ukrainian artist based in Slovenia. Her paintings have been exhibited in Ukraine, Slovenia, the United States, and Switzerland. The painting ”Let Me Be Myself” became the cover of the book ”Sensual Faith” by Lyvonne Briggs. Her figurative works have been portraying women's dignity and role for a few years. While exploring this problem, Anna strengthened her will and determination to focus on the global theme of inequality and injustice, which gradually emerged in her recent works.
