About The Artwork
Fire and Ice This painting was a journey back to the former winters of my life in the 1960's studying art. I knew a young lady back there and we lived in the North Country. The winters were fierce and cold but the fire in our hearts kept us warm on snowy evenings. Many years later I painted this. The figures illumined through the window and the snow covered streets of the charming town we lived in, ring down through the years, and glow in my memory like fire and ice. The treasured past can never be recaptured but fond memories can be a salvation. The original painting was done on canvas in oil paint with thick texture.

Painting and sculpting for over 50 years. Started in the early 1960's. Joined the Merchant Marines in my early twenties and set off to paint and draw around the world. Hitchhiked around Europe and Morocco for about a year and met wonderful artists in many places. Highlight was visiting Salvador Dali at his home in Spain. Back in the 70's it was much safer to hitchhike and camp out as you journeyed and I ventured around for about a year meeting wonderful young artists. Through the years, I've worked many jobs, in factories, offices etc. Eventually became a general contractor, however, the one thing I always did was keep my love of painting and sculpting. Had many art shows in the Los Angels area for about 30 years, managed to break new ground every once in a while, get acclaimed in the Art Realm for 15 seconds by the media, then relegated back onto the treadmill. Such is the life of artists who are in it for the Long Run. It's Cool, Is what it is and I've no complaints.
