About The Artwork

"Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice." (Robert Frost) This is the Salmon Glacier here in British Columbia, Canada in midsummer with flowering Fireweeds which can be seen everywhere in summer in the foreground. This soft pastel painting shows the incredible size of the fifth largest glacier in the world. It is terrible that this glacier is rapidly shrinking with all our others because of global warming which continues and is denied by so many of those with other vested interests. Worse still is the number of wildfires which have raged throughout Canada this year due to the intense heat and drought conditions with water restrictions now being imposed on a beautiful country which has more lakes than anywhere else in the world. Are the doomsayers correct when they claim that by 2050 there will only be fire and no ice at all?

I was born in South Africa and then studied for at Rhodes University under professor Brian Bradshaw. I lived in Northwestern British Columbia, Canada for 9 years. and during that time opened an art gallery (with gift shop), and a working studio where I painted and taught people to do the same. Although being a landscape painter using pastel has been a lifelong love, I now explore other media in an effort to express my strong thoughts and emotions\ . This has been a voyage of discovery where I have found new dimensions I was only able to dream of in the past. Please note that ALL of my images (C.N.
