The rite "tusau kesu" is performed when the child begins to take his first steps. The Kazakh word “tusau” is translated as “fetters”, and “kesu” - “to cut”. The older and younger generations believe that carrying out this custom will give the child a firm footing. For such an honorable cause, a respected, accomplished, well-intentioned person is chosen. Kesushi (the chosen person for cutting the bonds) cuts the tourniquet and leads the child by the hand along the white lined road (“ak zhol”), where several objects are waiting for him at the end. Usually it is an apple, a book, money and dombra. Since ancient times, the Kazakh people believed: what subject a child chooses, such will be his future fate. If an apple - then he will always be full, if a book - smart and inquisitive, if money - rich, and if dombra - creative.
