About The Artwork

Abstract canvas artworks are great conversation pieces. This painting will soften and enliven any modern home decor. I can't really explain, even to myself, my use of pale pastels. I am such a color enthusiast, and usually paint with very bold colors. I just go where the work leads me, and my last two have turned out with softer colors. This original artwork is done in yellow, blue, green and pinks. Even when using the paler colors, I am drawn toward punctuating with black and white as I did here. It is a challenge I make to myself to always create movement and multiple dimensions. I love surprising myself by seeing how many dimension twists and turns I can develop. This was a joy to paint. I hope the viewer gets involved looking for the next transition from one plane to the next. The edges are painted. A hanging wire is added. It is signed. A certificate of authenticity is provided. This square art was painted with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic and finished with Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
