About The Artwork

~Florence~ 36x24 inch, Oil on Canvas. This colourful piece depicts the Old Town of Florence, as seen from the Southern side of the Arno River, shortly after sunset. The view is typical of that seen from the iconic square, Piazzale Michelangelo. Painted in rapid impasto over a soothing and graded sunset, the piece gives the impression of the bold and passionate nature of the city. Bright orange and yellows contrast with the inky darkness of the encroaching night, beacons of light and life as the surrounding Tuscan countryside falls to peace. Origin of the Renaissance, the painting demonstrates the lively and resilient character of Florence, with particular focus being placed on the banks of the Arno, the Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) and the fortress of the Medici - the Palazzo Vecchio.

Shipping & Returns

My name is Michael Nicholson, and I am a 21 year old artist from Adelaide, Australia. I have been painting for around 5 years, without any formal training. I attended secondary school at St. Peter's College, and am finishing degrees in Law and Media at the University of Adelaide. Because I have had no institutional training, my art remains quite experimental, both within individual pieces, but also across my portfolio as a whole. I draw inspiration from the beautiful Australian landscape, but also from many other artists. My favourites include Andrew Salgado, Casey Baugh, Francoise Nielly, Ben Quilty and Thomas Moran. If you have any inquiries please feel free to message me, or comment on any of my pieces. Thanks, I hope you enjoy my work!
