About The Artwork

MACROCOSM The series Macrocosm consists of five works exploring the idea of augmenting the everyday objects. When enlarged, the objects gain a sacral and mystical meaning anew. The first work, Genesis, depicts an ordinary egg. However, when grotesquely enlarged, the egg begins to represent a bigger idea of the creation of life and the beginning of the earthy world. The second work, Flower, signifies the renaissance and abundance of life. The Shell refers to the sacred symbol of sexuality and sensuality. In mythology and folklore of different nations, the shell corresponds with the idea of femininity and female sexuality. It represents the fertility and conception, which makes the shell a perfect attribute of a goddess of love. In many cultures, moreover, the birth of life is closely connected to the ocean; it is the water that bears the fruits of life. The Feather manifests a spiritual part of human existence. Feathers traditionally adorn the ritual costumes of shamans, rulers and priests, connecting them to the world of spirits and transcending the power and protection of the other-worldly powers. The final work is a Stone, which represents the ultimate form of every bodily existence, turning into the dust. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. All together, the five works connect to the cycle of human life. We often treat these objects as mundane artifacts of everyday life without any idea of their inner sacral meaning. Only when seen in large-scale, as if through a magnifying glass, can they regain their original power and symbolism.

I am a London-based visual artist who is deeply inspired by the Baroque epoch and its parallels with the contemporary moment. As a child born during the Chernobyl Disaster, I have always been fascinated by the quest for immortality through science and art, and the vulnerability and strength of the body. My background in Baroque painting and theatre design has heavily influenced my contemporary art practices, allowing me to create bold and punkish works that are not afraid to tackle contemporary issues. My aim is to make painting popular again, just like it was in the Baroque times, creating works that leave a lasting impression and provide catharsis. Drawing inspiration from fashion icons like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, I seek to push the boundaries of painting and make it a relevant and contemporary art form. I am an active participant in the London art scene, with my most recent exhibition being a solo show at Hampstead Art School in April 2023. I am constantly seeking to challenge myself and push the boundaries of what is possible with painting, and I hope to continue to do so for many years to come.
