I am inspired by nature and architecture. I live in North Yorkshire, so it's easy to find both those on my doorstep. Painting has always given me a sense of solace, my peaceful place. I paint things that take my eye, it might be a glint of sunlight on water or the reflection of a tree on a still pond. My paintings bring back memories for me, of special places, holidays and loved ones no longer with us. Art has that power, I think like music, we can be spirited back to a moment in the past by a song or a painting. I was born on a farm in 1959, I had a wonderful childhood outside from first light to tea time. I'm sure that's where my love of nature and animals came from.
