About The Artwork

Canvas on wooden stretcher - can be rolled. Living in Africa I love nothing more than heading into the bush to take photos of wild animals and study them in their natural habitat. Then I return home and capture their essence in my work. One day I came across an old book with images of African symbols. I loved them and so incorporated them into my art. The meanings such as: 'loyalty,' 'initiative, 'support' 'love' etc. I felt were great to have in an environment to create a positive atmosphere. I enjoy the raised texture of the symbols and the simplified line work. It creates drama - just like the animals in the bush. I tend to use the colours of Africa as well.

Ann is a vibrant and prolific artist, wildlife photographer, and author. She was voted in 2020 as one of South Africa's top artists. She initially became known for her ‘ewe/sheep’ series of work. Whilst maintaining her ironic humor she has painted a number of other series of works, including ‘Wild Life’ ‘Zulu Lulu’ and 'Going to the Dogs series. A recurring theme in her work is a play on words and the use of popular jargon. Her quirky, humorous, yet profoundly insightful art, allows the viewer not only to laugh at themselves but to examine many of the absurd aspects of life.
